Why we opened on Bradshawgate

Leigh has never been short of barbers. What it was short of was somewhere a bloke could sit down, not be rushed, and walk out with a cut that had actually been thought about. That was the whole idea behind Refined Male Grooming, and Bradshawgate was the right street for it. It is the spine of the town centre, two minutes from the bus station, walkable from Spinning Gate, and passing trade knows where it is.

The fitout

The shop is deliberately monochrome. Black leather chairs, black slatted wall panelling, warm off white walls and grey marble effect tiling. The centrepiece is a full height arched mirror, which is where the arch shape you see all over this site comes from. There is no red and white pole and no clutter on the shelves.

The lighting was the part we spent the most time on. Overhead only is no good, because it throws shadows down the sides of the head and hides exactly the part you need to see when you are blending a fade. Ours is set so we can check the work from every angle before you get out of the chair.

How we work

Every service gets a real time slot. Half an hour for a cut and finish, forty minutes for a haircut and fifty five for a cut and beard together. We do not double book chairs and we do not stack appointments on top of each other to squeeze more in.

We take walk ins because a town centre shop should. If a chair is free when you come through the door you will get cut. Saturdays are the busiest, so book those if you cannot afford to wait.

What we will and will not do

We will tell you if a style will not sit right with your hair. We will suggest something better and explain why. We will not sell you products you do not need, and we will not talk you into a fade that is going to look wrong on you because it is what the lad before you had.
